Project Milwater: Three Bathrooms, One Vision

Project Milwater ensuite — double Cardrona Round basins in Eden White on a timber vanity, oval LED mirrors, large-format stone tiles, freestanding bath

When you're renovating three bathrooms at once, the challenge isn't just choosing the right products — it's making sure the whole house tells a coherent story. For the owners of this Milwater home, that story was built around one thing: texture.

"I wanted to make sure all the bathrooms felt cohesive, but that the master was a little more elevated than the others," Sarah told us. "My brief was centred around texture. I wanted to find a balance where every surface was a different texture, each one complementing the others."

The result is a home where ribbed glass meets curved timber, raw metals sit alongside gloss and matte finishes, and French handmade tiles bring depth to every wall. And running through all three bathrooms — the anchor that ties the whole house together — is Eden Stone.

The Basin That Changed Her Mind

The Cardrona Round didn't come first. Sarah had already purchased a different basin for the ensuite before she came back to us.

"They were high gloss and had particularly high sides. When scrolling one day, I got reminded of Eden Stone and knew immediately I had to replace the basins I had with Eden Stone."

What Sarah was after was the opposite of high gloss — the raw, matte finish that catches the light differently depending on the time of day. "Eden Stone's finish is exactly what we were after. The raw, matte finish with a stone fleck throughout sits perfectly on our matte bench top and offsets the handmade high-textured tiles behind them."

But what Sarah didn't expect was the evening effect. "I especially love it in the night light when you can see all the subtle movements in the texture of the products that you cannot see in the daylight."

That's the nature of handmade stone. Every piece has something to reveal.

Two in the Ensuite, Dune Everywhere Else

Sarah chose the Dune for the two smaller bathrooms — understated, well-proportioned, a quiet focal point without competing with the rest of the room.

For the ensuite, she went with a pair of Cardrona Rounds. Why two?

"I didn't want my husband to use mine. But really, what's better than one Cardrona? Two."

The double basin setup works on more than aesthetic grounds. With young children in the house, the basin height matters. "The height of all our Eden Stone basins also work well for our young children — a great compromise of style and family practicalities."

A Note on Vanity Height

It's one of the most common things people don't think about until it's too late — the relationship between basin height, vanity height, and tapware. Sarah didn't get it right the first time.

"We didn't check, and then when I saw the vanity height, I was not sold. I was lucky it was not a biggie to take it off and start again."

Sarah reached out to us via Instagram for guidance, and we helped work through the right spec. Her advice to anyone else in the same position:

"Look at industry standards for vanity, taps and sinks, and base your thinking on that realm — but then review it for you. Ultimately the bathroom needs to work for you and your family. And if you want it all a fraction higher because it just looks right, have the confidence to make that call. You'll be in and out of the room multiple times a day — you want it perfect."

Practical, considered, specific. The kind of thinking that makes a renovation last.

How the Room Comes Together

The Cardrona Rounds sit on a reeded and curved timber vanity with a matte bench. Above them, oval LED mirrors. The tiles are French handmade — high texture, deeply individual. The glass is reeded. Every surface does something different, and every surface belongs.

"Our bathroom hit the brief perfectly. It feels like a calm, textured environment with lots of curves and different surfaces. It feels cohesive and luxurious."

Sarah didn't set out to choose Eden Stone twice. She came back to us because nothing else looked right. Now, she says she'd choose us again without question.

"You will not regret this decision."

The Cardrona Round basin is available in Eden White, Eden Grey and Eden Black. The Dune basin is available in the same core colours. Both are handmade and ship NZ-wide in under a week.
